Ruanne Dancemaster

Dr. Patricia Ruanne D.Litt, Diplome D' Etat.


Patricia Ruanne was born in England and trained at The Royal Ballet School. She joined the Royal Ballet Company at the age of 17 and rose rapidly to the rank of Principal Dancer. She transferred to London Festival Ballet, (now English National Ballet,) where she remained until she retired from the stage.

She danced all the major classical roles, had a large and varied contemporary repertoire, and created roles in many new ballets, most notably the role of Juliet in Rudolf Nureyev's "Romeo and Juliet."

Ruanne is responsible for many of Rudolf Nureyev's ballets, she has staged them worldwide

She was nominated for the Olivier Award for The Most Outstanding Performance in Dance for her portrayal of Tatiana in John Cranko's "Eugene Onegin," and made Doctor of Letters, Honoris Causa by Leeds University.

She was invited by Nureyev to join him as Repetetrice and Ballet Mistress at the Paris Opera, and she also directed the Ballet Company of La Scala, Milan.

She has lived in Guadeloupe since 1996 with her husband, Frederic Jahn, himself a Ballet Master and Teacher of international renown.
